Leptin is a 16 kD non-glycosylated polypeptide that signals the body fat reserves and energy status to the hypothalamus. Moreover, Leptin is an adipocyte-secreted hormone which effects in the physiology and pathophysiology of endocrinology, and bone metabolism, meanwhile, Leptin also regulates homeostasis and reproductive, neuroendocrine, and immune functions. Leptin acts via leptin receptor (LepRb), as a body barometer providing a critical link between energy homeostasis, appetite and reproductive function. Results from correlation studies in leptin treatment is currently available for individuals with congenital leptin deficiency and congenital lipoatrophy.
